Gono Bishwabidyalay was founded by the Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) Public Charitable Trust, which originated during the 1971 Liberation War. GK, a globally renowned NGO, has been instrumental in Bangladesh's development since 1972.
It introduced innovative programs such as health insurance, preservation of folk culture and art, and played a key role in formulating the Bangladesh National Drug Policy.
GK established Gono Bishwabidyalay on 14 July 1998, continuing its mission of empowerment and education.
